We have some custom widgets in our page sidebar, and I have a contributor that is unable to edit any content in these widgets. She gets an error that she doesn’t have permission. She is able to edit content in other widgets on the page, just not the sidebar widgets. (Some are shared assets, some are local. She can’t access either.)
Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening here?
Is it possible that permissions are set for the folders that the shared assets are in? You can determine this by locating the directory your shared assets are in, single-clicking the directory, and clicking the gearbox to view the folder’s properties. Take a look at the security and permissions tabs for this folder. Let us know what you find!
Is the error along the lines of ‘You are not authorized to edit the asset x’?
If so, then it’s likely a workflow issue. Take a look under the Workflow tab, and see if there is a workflow assigned to the directory the shared asset is assigned to. IF the user who cannot edit the asset isn’t part of the workflow then they won’t be allowed to edit the asset.
If they are part of the workflow, is it possible that the item is in a state, such as live or pending, that the user is not allowed to modify due to the workflow settings?
I checked workflow. We have a workflow specific for Assets, and Contributors only had access to Drafts there, so I added Reject on Review, and Resubmit on Approved (the asset status was Live.) Unfortunately, she is still getting the same error.
Has the contributor logged out and back in since you changed the workflow? I’ve noticed that changes dont affect logged in users until they’ve logged out and back in again; something to try.
