What is the best practice for restarting the Percussion service? CM1 has been loading slower and slower today and now won't load at all

When I login to the editing interface, it has been loading slower and slower and gave me some 500 errors. Now I only get the top blue bar and then the page load stops.

What’s the best way to reset/restart?

Hi Sharon,

I understand you’re running Percussion in a Windows Server environment. In that case you’ll want to follow this process:

  1. Open up Windows Services (Start > Search > “services.msc”), find the service name Percussion Service , and then right-click on this service and select Stop.

  2. Open up Task Manager (right-click on empty space in start bar and select “Task Manger”), select “Show processes from all users”, and then make note of any java.exe processes that are actively running. As Percussion shuts down, these java.exe processes should all disappear. (If they appear to have hung, you may need to right-click and end all of these processes manually.)

  3. Once all of the java.exe processes have shut down, go back to Windows Services, right-click on the Percussion Service, and select Start. Note that it will take between 2 and 5 minutes for the application to start up all the way and become accessible again.

Let me know if you have any trouble with this.

Also, the server has a message on it that it has to restart to finish installing updates. What’s the best way to do that? Do I need to do anything to percussion first?

Sharon,

Just to be safe, I would shut down Percussion first before restarting the system (steps 1 and 2).

Worked perfect and Percussion restarted on its own when the server restarted. Thanks!

Glad to hear it, Sharon. Hopefully some combination of installing the updates and rebooting the whole server will have unlocked whatever resources were being tied up, causing your system to crawl. Let me know if you have any further performance issues.
