For every training session we provided at Santa Fe College, we have been asked a lot of this: “Where can we drag the widget(s) in there”?
As for non-admin, I think the best approach is to have one colored regions such as green box… letting users know where they can drag n drop. So they don’t get frustrated when it comes to “locked” area.
I think this method will be the best and less confusion for them. Here’s two screenshots so you get the idea…
