Change Template Order

For a content type we have about 20 templates defined for a slot. However, the order in which we initially defined and added, we would like to make changes and would like to Change the order of the templates in which they appear.

I could not find any option to change the order of templates in which they get initially listed. Is there any easy way to change the order?

I looked into Object sorter but that does not seems to help either.

Right now it appears they are listed in alphabetical order in both workbench and the Content Explorer. Is there any way to override this default behavior?

No, there is no way to change the display order.
