content explorer not loading when logging in as certain user and default en-us local

A user cannot edit content when logging in with the default en-us locale.

When I log in, I get the following error message in the top left of the screen
“Error: click for details”

When I click for details I get … "Application Error
IllegalStateException
load() must be called before calling getDisplayOptions()

I have found an archived issue with exactly the same issue but they did not get a solution:

I tried deleting the entry in the PSX_PERSISTEDPROPERTYVALUES table but this did not work.

We had gotten a similar issue to this before, and we found it was related to their Display Format. They had a specific Display Format selected and the previous one that they had selected either wasn’t available anymore, or was deleted. I think that we had to change the default display format to a different option and the issue was fixed.
