Firefox, OS X 10.8.3, Java Issues

We are having problems with the latest version of Firefox (20) on the Mac with Java 7 Update 21. The problem manifests itself when inserting an inline template in the Ephox Editor and hitting save (it crashes the browser).

Our (hopefully) temporary solution is to use Firefox Aurora (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/) and to configure Java settings to not show warnings about mixed code: System Preference > Java > Control Panel > Advanced > Mixed Code (Check "Enable - Hide warning and run).

We can’t use Safari as it has its own set of problems and Percussion TS’s solution for us was to use Firefox on a Mac…

Do note that Aurora is an “experimental” browser so this may break in the future. But, for now, for our Mac users, that appears to be their only hope…

Does anyone else have any problems with the latest update on a Mac?

I’m having the same problem and it is infuriating, we have a number of Mac users and having this problem is making them not want to use the CMS. Thanks for posting about Aurora. Here’s hoping someone does some work to improve the user experience for Mac users.

Unfortunately Aurora doesn’t seem to be any better that Firefox for me, I’m on OS X 10.7.5 and the CMS is now unusable multiple crashes or hanging of Java/Firefox/Safari/Aurora - does anyone have any ideas that may help?

I assume you changed the java setting with the mixed code warning?

Is this the signed/unsigned content warning? What can be done to remove that warning?

We don’t see crashes, but plenty of warnings that we need to allow.

If you follow the directions to change the java settings, those warnings should go away…

We’re having all sorts of issues with Firefox on Mac here. As far as I can tell, the CMS has become unusable for Mac users.

Percussion, what’s your recommendation for setting up Mac users to submit content to the CMS? Rolling back to older Java/browser versions is not an option for us.

The writing has been on the wall with Java browser plugins for months, so I’m surprised that Percussion hasn’t addressed this already.

Update: The CM System 6.7 Patch includes the updates she mentions for CM System 6.7. This should clear all but one security warning.

The 7.2 patch is still in process. Engineering is working with the Ephox team on a remaining integration issue with the Ephox 8.1 editor related to the Java Update. Please note that although Safari 6 will be stable, that we still anticipate some problems with Firefox as there are open bugs with the latest Firefox Java plugin combined with the latest JRE on OSX related to memory management.

Jitendra which version of Safari / CM System were you using when we steered you to Firefox?

Thanks,
