Install MSM Packages

I’ve recently run into an issue trying to install some MSM packages. It appears that this can not be done while publishing is going on. This presents a problem for me since we use an on-demand publishing system, making it hard to find time when the publisher is not running.

It would be nice if you could install these while publishing is going on or some way to prevent any publishing at for a given time period so packages can be installed without fear of another publish being triggered.

We are on 6.5.2 so if there is already a way to do this with later versions please let me know.

For now, installing MSM packages needs to be managed similar to performing server upgrades. That means, schedule a time to shut off access to the CM System production server, run the install, then turn it back on. (this does not mean you’re actually shutting off the server, but from a admin perspective, it’s the same process).

To minimize down time, as with upgrades, follow test install recommendations on a mirror/dev server first, etc.
