Is there a way to add a category or tag to a file asset? Not seeing any indication this is possible

Is there a way to tag or categorize assets? Say I have a bunch of .pdf files related to different topics and want a way to use a custom file autolist widget to display them by tag or catogory. Possible?

It is not possible to tag or categorize assets today.  I’ll convert this topic to an Idea so that others can vote on it.

I would like to bring this back to the surface. I have multiple uses for this functionality.
