Odd Template editor error: TokenMgrError

Today we encountered an issue we have seen a number of times. Sometimes when adding comments to a velocity template using the Toggle Comment tool we suddenly get a rendering error like this:

2009-06-10 11:17:01,931 ERROR [PSVelocityAssembler] Problem assembling output for item: 1-101-16890 with template: mdaSnBreadcrumb
org.apache.velocity.exception.ParseErrorException: Lexical error: org.apache.velocity.runtime.parser.TokenMgrError: Lexical error at line 48, column 23. Encountered: <EOF> after : “”

What seems to be going on is that some invisible character has been added by the comment that causes template rendering to choke with the above error. This is not a consistent error and cannot be reproduced at will. It just seems to randomly happen but we have seen it on multiple occasions.

The workaround solution that we have found to this is to copy all of the template text into notepad and then blank the template, save and repaste the text back into the template.

Clears the error right up.

So the questions we have are:

  1. Has anyone else noticed this? Are the Rhythmyx developers aware of it?
  2. If so any plans to eliminate this defect?

Our version of Rhythmyx: Version: 6.5.2
