Paste as Link Community Visibility

We are facing a scenario where we want to share a content item (Content Type X) from Site A (Community A) to Site B (Community B). To do this, we want to use copy -> paste as link. The only way we have found to make this work is if Content Type X is in the “visible content types” of Community B.

The issue we are running into is that we do not want to give Community B access to create or modify Content Type X. When Content Type X is added to the “Visible Content Types” of Community B, Content Type X shows up in the “New Items” menu on Site B.

Is there a way to give a community read access to a content type without allowing them to create it? Or is there a way to hide Content Type X from the “New Items” menu only on Site B?

Thanks,
John

John,

If you’re wanting Community B to be able to Copy / Paste content items from Site A to Site B you will need to ability to write/update with that content type. You could always use Community A to Copy / Paste content items from Site A to Site B without giving Community B the ability to write/update with that content type.

I hope I understood your scenario correctly.

You could always create a workflow for content type X that is for Site B that doesn’t allow them to do anything…
