Here is an inlink code I copy from the body of an content item:

There is a sys_varaintid inside href and also a sys_dependentvariantid attribute in the link.
Could you please let me know what is the difference between these two variant ids? When coming to previewing or publishing, which variant id will be applied to the dependent?
